This has become one of my favorite places in Portland - and, I swear, it is not just because they make some of the best butterscotch you will ever taste (which I have confirmed with 2 different friends and counting). I met a friend here for Portland Dining Month - it was top on my list based on their gorgeous menu they posted in Travel Portland. Showing them off to my dear friend was just what both of us needed after a long work week that begged for a cocktail or three. We both started with drinks and I really enjoyed their amazing house red. It was so good I had more than one. The first course was early Spring greens, baby carrots, toasted almond granola with a charred onion dressing. The second course we both went with the sesame sumac crusted Oregon rockfish with warm chickpea salad and arumato. ANd the finale was butterscotch pudding with vanilla caramel, sea salt and chocolate bark which was incredible. The service is always perfection...seriously... Where you get the recommendations you need or are asking for. The ease and flow of a lovely conversation but not too much - just perfect and talking with multiple people who work there and love their jobs and what they do. It shows and they believe in the menu too - that reflects on the restaurant and makes it such a pleasure to eat here.

Nice outdoor seating space, which is a must because it's always busy here. The food brings in locals and tourists alike, and for good reason! Due to the high volume, service is a little on the slow side, but after they drop off your food, you'll be too busy eating to even notice. Great flavors, interesting menu and a welcoming environment make for a great combo!

Solid food, solid service, and solid ambiance; also stroller friendly. Yes, there are plenty of great reviews of this "kitchen" which is in the heart of the Pearl District. Adorned with metal, glass on the outside, just a few steps up the risen sidewalks, is a wonderful restaurant that services those looking for great food. Our affair with this establishment was all about the brunch food. If you think that you need a billion items on a brunch menu to be impressive, then you haven't sat down here for their wonder at their limited number of brunch items.. like just 13 items to select from. The food we selected for this meal included the Skuna Salmon Gravlax Benedict, Slow Poached Moroccan Eggs, and Guajillo Butter Fried Chicken. The first item, the Salmon Benedict was made perfectly, I mean the layers of flavor peel back like a crisp onion, from the poached savory egg, pierced with the knife, into the salmon, then into the crisp biscuit bottom. You can absolutely taste each texture, flavour and on the mouth feel is wonderful. The Moroccan is basically a shakshuka, and while I didn't get much of a taste, the wife declared silently that it was amazing, by actually clearing her plate. This is rare, and something to be celebrated if the restaurant lived up to her strict standards of excellence... and taste. The final piece was the Fried Chicken (and waffles)... which was fried like someone gave a damn, and with the juices flooding out with each bit, it was heaven on a plate. Okay, the meal was pretty darn slow, but they apologized, and made up for it with something for us to try. Look... I can overlook these type of things, if the service and people there made us feel respected, and cared for, and they did do exactly that. So 5 stars for a place that keeps our minds, soul and tummies happy.

This place is really good. We tried going to Tasty n' Alder at about noon on a Saturday but the wait was way too long, as per usual. So with some quick thinking I thought Irving Street Kitchen would be a good alternative. There was a maybe 5 minute wait to sit outside, so that was great. Both ordered bloody Mary's and they were solid. Really love whatever mix they have or make. To eat I got the smoked pastrami hash which I loved. Just what I was in the mood for & the flavors were great. Not a lot of pastrami but it was fine. Also had zucchini, peas, spinach, sweet potatoes and a Dijon style sauce. My friend got the gravalax Benedict over biscuits. The hollandaise was amazing, that really made it. Service was kind but not quick. We waited forever to get our check well after we were done eating. We weren't in a rush, but it got slightly annoying. Overall I think this place is really good and I'd definitely go back, especially for brunch since they don't have the wait time that other popular places in Portland do. I think dinner would be really good here too as the menu is small and changes seasonally, so they focus on what they're good at. Definitely worth trying.

What I ordered: Salmon Benedict Taste: one of my favorite dishes we had in Portland, top favorites for a Salmon Benny. The hollandaise sauce has a stronger dill flavor but the whole dish was just well put together. Portion was good! Service: server was nice! Parking: street

This was my favorite restaurant in Portland!! We came early (around 5) and there was plenty of seating around. They seated us near the window, where there was this huge area for my dog to just sleep on. I honestly don't think anyone noticed there was even a dog sitting there LOL. Portions here are quite small. It feels like fancy elegant dining, but not quite there. Given the price, I had hoped for there to be more? Anyways, service was most friendly. We ordered: DUNGENESS CRAB (3/5): This dish was so expensive, especially as an appetizer! We were drawn to the black truffle beet sauce that it came with, so we ordered it anyways. I liked it, but I don't think it was worth the price. I didn't like the mini tangerine pieces that it came with. Felt a bit out of place with the dish. I'd skip on this! WINTER SQUASH CAVATELLI (6/5): Again, I am breaking the rules of mathematics and giving this dish a six out of five. This dish was absolutely magical. The cavatelli pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The creamy squash sauce was divine, and made each bite feel worth the $$ for it. The sage was a BEAUTIFUL touch - it really pulled the dish together. I sound super pretentious for saying that, but seriously - the sage leaves sprinkled on the top....man you could really taste the difference. CHORIZO AND SQUID INK RISOTTO (3/5): I personally thought this was way too sour! I was also confused as to why there was barely any chorizo, considering it's in the name of this dish. The risotto was not creamy - it was sauced with more of a sour broth. My boyfriend ordered this, and I'm glad I did not. Definitely not a fave. I love the look and the feel of this place so much. On one side of the seating area, there are tables between bookshelves. It almost feels like the two sides of the restaurant have two different personalities. Definitely check this place out if you visit Portland. It's located right in the hipster allies of Pearl District anyways!

One of the few places in PDX that serve the Impossible Burger (plant-based burger made up of fats, amino acids, and nutrients from plants... and supposedly bleeds?!!) We made reservations for brunch and were seated immediately upon arrival. Took a little while for the waitress to get our order even though the restaurant was pretty quiet, but we weren't in any rush. We got the Impossible Burger and the Salmon Benedict. I'm not a vegetarian, but I really liked the Impossible Burger! It was really flavorful, and the texture was actually kind of like a beef patty. I couldn't believe it wasn't meat. The sauces in it were tasty too. And the cajun fries with whiskey ketchup were a good pairing! Really liked the salmon lox on the Benedict -- the hollandaise had a lot of dill in it, which wasn't a big dill for me cause I like the flavor (; and it helped to offset some of the creaminess of the sauce. I have been there for happy hour before and really enjoyed their fried oysters. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!

***Update March 2018*** We finally circled back to Irving Street Kitchen, this time for dining month. We had a fantastic dinner and all the staff, from the hostess to our server and the folks who delivered the dishes, were great. The people here understand hospitality. The dinner food was also delicious, just as it was for brunch. We all enjoyed our cocktails as well - especially the rum, banana liquor and stout beer float concoction. We could not get enough of the delicious bread, which was perfect to soak up the egg on our fish entrees. Dessert, a pot de creme, was decadent. We will be back! *** We came to Irving Street Kitchen specifically for the meatless Impossible Burger during brunch. It was delicious. My partner, who has given up beef but still gets burger cravings, said it filled the void that no other veggie burger has been able to fill. I on the other hand don't like burgers that much, but the impossible burger was really good, exploding with umami. Definitely good enough that Irving Street Kitchen has gotten rid of the beef burger entirely from the menu! We were also happy to discover that the brunch here was good - my coffee cocktail and salmon Benedict were perfect. It was definitely one of the top Benedict dishes I've had, owing to the biscuits which they use in lieu of English muffins, and a dill-forward hollandaise sauce. We also liked the open space of the restaurant and the decor - definitely a cute place for brunch or dinner.
